Definition: Mash-up: “something created by combining elements from two or more sources: such as:
“a
movie or video having characters or situations from other sources”
“a
piece of music created by digitally overlaying an instrumental track with a
vocal track from a different recording”
“a Web
service or application that integrates data and functionalities from various
online sources”
First Known use of mash-up in 1859 (source:
merrian-webster.com)
I used Microsoft photos or video editor to create the video
mash-up. Being the first time that I was using this application, I created several
videos to familiarize myself to the application’s tools. The first video was
created with photographs, using the sounds created in Soundation.com. The
second is a home video where I used some special effects and incorporated the
mash-up sounds that I created the week before (posted in blogger) using the app
Soundation.com. The third video mash-up was created from two cartoons that were
uploaded from Archive.org. I downloaded the MPEG4 version of the media to the
computer and then saved it to the computer, this step made it easier to the
next step of the process that was to upload to the Microsoft video editor. For
this video I created a new sound through Soundation.com to match the cartoon narrative.
I changed certain aspects regarding the order of the scenes but maintained both
original cartoons without mixing with each other (that was one aspect of the
class assignment).
Finally, for the fourth video, I followed all the steps,
above mentioned, plus taking care that the narrative could be easily understood
by the viewer, that the narrative maintained a continuous sequence, smooth transitions
and had a clear introduction and ending. There are two sources for the video
footage. The sources were media available for public domain (free for any use,
no rights reserved) from Archive.org. I used the original sound and voices of
the video sources. I incorporated the sound created in Soundation.com at the beginning
and at the end of the video mash-up. I believe that the pace of the video is
appropriate regarding the subject matter. Both sources somewhat have a similar
content that when editing them together in the mash-up complement each other, and influence in the mood and feeling of the viewer. After the video was ready, I saved it to the computer, uploaded to YouTube and then to Blogger.
I enjoy learning the process of this
project.
